Looking Forward

As I write this, 2014 is but a memory. I like to put out a post every year to show what my favorites images from the year are. Here is a link to last year's review. 2014 was really good to me in terms of my photography. The first half of the year was filled with portraits, mostly shot on location. A strong first three months of understanding how to use off camera flash was the foundation for the work I am currently producing. Aside from shooting multiple portrait sessions, I shot a lot of soccer games and I traveled quite a bit in 2014. Los Angeles, Sedona, Mexico, Bisbee, Phoenix, Mt. Graham, and San Diego were some of places photography took me. During July I moved into a new home with a large living space I would strictly use as a studio. This has definitely helped me simply by having a dedicated work space. The ability to have the backdrops, all the lights, and equipment on stand by gives you a solid platform to experiment. I think the work I've been putting out since that time has reflected my dedication to constant learning and progression. As the year closed out I couldn't help but notice something interesting. Having your own studio raises certain challenges when t comes to your work. For one, just because you have a studio doesn't mean you're going to get amazing photos. The images are only going to be as creative as you are. Why? This is due to the natural of total control. In the hands of an individual with an imagination, total control is liberating, refreshing, and exciting. On the other side, it can be completely crippling if it overwhelms you. So much control to someone who is used to being a reactive shooter, takes some getting used to. With that being said, I plan on mixing things up, continually push myself, and shoot on location more so all my photos don't look the same. Overall, 2014 was amazing and I look forward to what 2015 has to offer so I can be all over that shit. Until next time
